Native American, Northwestern United States, Columbia River Plateau region, Nez Perce, ca. early 20th century CE. A woven or twined wall pocket decoration made from hemp, cotton, and dyed cornhusk, the three pockets graduating in size with decorative panels attaching to each other. The natural and dyed cornhusks are false embroidered over a hemp fabric surface into geometric patterns - with a red cotton border attached to the edges. Bags and other items woven from cornhusk and native hemp were sought-after trade items in the Plateau trade network - and as time went on - these bags became more ornate using many materials. This wall pocket hanging is unusual - rare - and would display nicely on a wall as intended! Size: 20" L x 5.5" W (50.8 cm x 14 cm)
