Southeast Asia, Philippines, Ifugao province, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A solid, hand-carved wooden bowl supported by four andromorphic figures. The figures are both men and women standing upon an integral pedestal with the base of the shallow bowl resting on their heads. This may have been a ritualistic vessel for sipping rice wine or presenting offerings. These ceremonial bowls were polished with animal fat and developed dark patinas from smoke as they were often kept near a hearth, as we see in this fine example! Size: 4.375" W x 11.1" H (11.1 cm x 28.2 cm)
