North Pacific, Hawaii, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An elegant carved-Koa wood bowl boasting a flat, circular base with thick walls that rise to an annular rim. The rim is slightly uneven giving it a slightly undulating appearance when rotated. In addition to this attractive form, the wood itself is inherently gorgeous, presenting mesmerizing grain patterns and warm lustrous patina in hues of caramel, butterscotch, chocolate brown, and espresso. A wonderful example made from wood of the flowering Acacia Koa tree. Interestingly, in the Hawaiian language, the word koa means "fearless warrior." Size: 14" in diameter x 8.875" H (35.6 cm x 22.5 cm)
