Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yombe peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful seated female figure, hand-carved from hard wood, depicting an elegant form. The woman is seated upon an accompanying wooden stool, her broad feet resting upon an integral rectangular plinth, legs bent at the knees and leading to slender hips. Her tubular torso and delineated female genitalia are decorated with black-painted pointillist designs which trace upwards through her pendulous breasts. Rounded shoulders support a pair of bent arms, with perforations to each hand suggesting she once held two attributes. Her serene visage is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, slight smiling mouth, naturalistic ears, and a tall, smooth coiffure, all supported by a necklace-decorated, ringed neck. Covered in a rich brown patina, this is a fantastic example from Central Africa! Size: 7.25" W x 21.5" H (18.4 cm x 54.6 cm).
