**Originally Listed At $400**
Central Africa, Cameroon, Mambila peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A gorgeous axe with a forged iron axe head and a wooden body and handle. Hand-carved from hard wood, the body has an elongated, club-shaped form that gradually tapers to a slender, integral handle. An amusing, integral figure projects from the terminal of the handle, standing atop delineated legs with a portly abdomen, hunched shoulders, bent arms, and a stylized triangular head. A small slot holds a lengthy iron axe head with a tapered rectangular body, a pointed pick end, and a sharpened edge with flared points on the other. The wooden element is covered in a lustrous light-brown patina, making this a beautiful example from Central Africa! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 11" W x 21.75" H (27.9 cm x 55.2 cm); 23.625" H (60 cm) on included custom stand.
