- Lot Description
Native American, southwestern United States, New Mexico, Acoma Pueblo, ca. early 20th century CE. A sizable, hand-built pottery jar with a concave base, an inverted piriform body, a rounded shoulder, and a low rim surrounding the deep basin. The cream-slipped vessel displays a beautiful decorative program consisting of four desert quail. The birds are framed with abstract curving borders reminiscent of large-feathered bird wings. Black and pale orange form these motifs. The base is painted solid orange as is the interior. Size: 9.2" W x 8.5" H (23.4 cm x 21.6 cm)
Provenance: ex private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired prior to 2008

#153939Repairs to areas of rim, upper body, and midsection, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to rim, base, and body, with chipping and fading to pigmentation, and minor pitting in some areas. Nice remains of original pigment throughout.Condition
