North America, United States, probably American Frontier, ca. early to mid-19th century CE. A lovely example of a fighting knife used in close quarters combat on the American Frontier. The forged-steel blade features a sloping point that narrows gradually towards the gently upturned tip, a sharpened edge opposite the thick spine, and a sturdy bolster. A central hand guard bears a pair of upturned quillons, and the hand-carved rosewood handle features 6 raised ringlets below the slightly curved pommel; a steel rivet secures the handle to the end of the tang. Size: 2.3" W x 14.875" H (5.8 cm x 37.8 cm); (blade): 9.625" L x 1.25" W (24.4 cm x 3.2 cm)
