Morocco, Lower Eocene, 56 to 47.8 million years ago. This is a rare, lab-cleaned skull of a prehistoric Dyrosaurus found in the famous fossil deposits of the phosphate mines of Khouribga, Morocco. The specimen is 99% genuine with only the teeth found originally in the skull. It has been cleaned of all the matrix from inside the skull and then, re-mounted on a base made with the original sand and other fossils found with and inside the skull. While fake examples are commonly seen purchased in the tourist shops, this rare specimen has been meticulously cleaned, conserved and mounted by a U.S.-based paleontology lab. The various fossil shark teeth you may see on the surface were from prehistoric sharks that lived alongside this marine reptile and were found in the matrix that was dug with the skull and in the jacket that was removed from the mine.
The hours that were put into this piece are too numerous to count. An extremely impressive complete skull of a huge predator of the Lower Eocene of North Africa. Perfect for the best museum exhibits or advanced collections requiring maximum display effect!
Size: 38" X 17" (97 cm x 43 cm) overall with matrix base, skull is 33.5" long x 13.75" wide (85 cm x 35 cm).
