David Tinsley (American, b. 1951). "Sugar Baby No. 9" paint and mixed media on board, n.d. Signed on lower left. Signed and titled on the verso. A striking painting by famous Outsider Artist David Tinsley, number 9 from his "Sugar Baby" series. The composition features a young lady holding a piece of watermelon accompanied by her black cat, both facing the viewer with their entrancing green and yellow eyes. The young lady wears a colorful floral dress with cutouts that reveal her breasts, while the feline dons what appears to be a red buttoned black vest, which in concert with his black and white fur make for a humorous play on the term tuxedo cat. Both present bold facial features, and their forms are delineated with a folk art aesthetic. In the background are vibrant floral blossoms of red, orange, and black hues against a golden yellow background. Size: 18" L x 16" W (45.7 cm x 40.6 cm) Size w/ border: 18.75" L x 16.875" W (47.6 cm x 42.9 cm)
