David Scherer (American, XX-XXI). Mixed media grandfather clock, ca. 2003. A fabulous grandfather clock by David Scherer that is sure to furnish any interior with vibrance and energetic POP! The tall grandfather clock presents a large, circular face that is playfully adorned with applied jigsaw puzzle pieces as well as other repurposed objects, boldly painted in shades of violet, and further embellished with 7 geometric and puzzle-shaped colorfully painted wooden adornments joined to the perimeter via twisted metal wires. Its slender red and silver hued hands make for a nice contrast with the purple collaged face, and its white pendulum swings before a tall colorful body which is comprised of a painted plexiglass front face and an elaborate collaged and painted back face joined together via painted silver wooden dowels and mounted upon a painted plexiglass base. The front plexiglass face is painted with an abstract puzzle-inspired theme in a rainbow-like array of hues - the paint presenting with texture and inscribed gestural motifs - around unpainted, translucent negative space. The rear face of the body is comprised of a painted collage on wood board - featuring puzzle pieces, an artificial plant, a toy frog, pieces of corrugated cardboard, and other found objects - all painted in a rich melange of blended hues (predominantly yellow with blue, red, green, purple, and white hues as well). Finally, the plexiglass base is painted in shades of violet and inscribed with gestural motifs as well. Scherer creates the most unique pieces of art and design with an innovative blend of textures, colors, and imaginative vision. This grandfather clock is an incredibly rare example from Scherer's oeuvre, as he usually creates smaller wall or tabletop clocks. In fact, we did not find another Scherer grandfather clock in our research. A spectacular artisan-crafted grandfather clock by David Scherer. Size: 12" deep x 16" W x 70.625" H (30.5 cm x 40.6 cm x 179.4 cm)
