David Shapiro (American, 1944-2014), colored etching from Birnham Wood series, number 29 in edition of 30, 1981 CE. Dated, numbered, and signed by the artist in pencil on the lower edge. A striking work on handmade paper from Shapiro's Birnham Wood series. The vibrant, non-objective composition includes an upper right triangle presenting a batik-like pattern in green hues and a lower left triangle occupied by a variety of abstract linear and geometric motifs in gold, red, black, and blue hues. The piece is set within a white mat and presented under glass in a white painted wood frame. A wonderful example from this artist whose mixed media, abstract works are in such respected museum collections as the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Size: 35" L x 30.5" W (88.9 cm x 77.5 cm); 42.75" L x 38.5" W (108.6 cm x 97.8 cm) framed
