Ancient Near East, Cyprus, late Cypriot I, ca. 1600 to 1050 BCE; Ancient Greece, Geometric Period, ca. late 8th to 7th century BCE. A fine set of two hand-built pottery pieces from the ancient world. First is a standing Cypriot juglet known as a bilbil with a flared foot, an apple-shaped body, a tapered cylindrical neck with a wide rim, and a slender strap handle. Next is a petite Greek Geometric horse standing atop a quartet of nubbin legs, holding its head high, and displaying incised striations across its mane. Size (juglet): 2.6" W x 5.875" H (6.6 cm x 14.9 cm); (horse): 2.7" L x 0.875" W x 2.3" H (6.9 cm x 2.2 cm x 5.8 cm)

Condition
Bilbil has repairs to rim, handle, and neck atop body, with a couple of stable hairline fissures on obverse of body, and chipping to rim and foot; horse is intact and very good. Both pieces have minor nicks and encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and preservation to overall forms.
