Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 400 to 600 CE. An adorable pottery vessel in the form of a seated owl with a flat base, globular body, wide neck, and circular rim. The cute bird displays a pair of petite feet and tacked wings at its sides. The adorable visage is featured on the neck of the vessel, presenting a protruding curved beak and annular eyes with recessed pupils. A pair of perforated suspension loops flanks the owl's head, dually serving as ears. The exterior of the vessel is enveloped in a pale orange slip, while nice remains of beige and black paint adorn its verso. A fabulous example from the ancient Moche! Size: 3.4" in diameter x 5.1" H (8.6 cm x 13 cm)
