- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An intriguing figural pendant carved from mottled forest-green omphacite jade with faint beige veining. The slender figure features a pair of delineated legs beneath a string-cut pubis and abdomen, holds both arms atop her bosom, and has a biconically drilled suspension hole on each shoulder. The abstract trapezoidal head features a triangular nose flanked with puffy, wide-set eyes, a rounded chin beneath a slender mouth, and a crosshatched coiffure that rests low on the brow. The surfaces are highly polished until they achieved a fine luster. Size: 0.85" W x 2.44" H (2.2 cm x 6.2 cm)
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, bestowed 2006; ex-J. Malter collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired before 2006
