Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE; Colombia, Tairona, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A wonderful ensemble of two necklaces composed of beads carved from different colors of spondylus shell. First is a necklace comprised of 7 frog-form beads made from spondylus shell of purple, white, and yellow hues, each with circular eyes inlaid with green-hued stone. Each frog is separated by a small stone seed bead of creamy yellow hues, and the remainder of the necklace strand is strung with dozens of similar beads. Next is a Tairona necklace with dozens of discoid spondylus shell beads of red-orange and white colors, with several small greenstone seed beads, and a pale-green stone amulet with an abstract countenance and a conical body. Strung in modern times, these necklaces are wearable for any occasion! Size of largest necklace (Tairona): 18.375" L (46.7 cm); size of largest bead (Tairona amulet): 1.375" H (3.5 cm).

Condition
Both necklaces are strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Stone and coral beads are ancient, and stringing and clasps are modern. Small chips and abrasions to some beads, with minor pitting holes, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
