- Lot Description
Mary Bates Neubauer (American, active 20th to 21st century), "Rota", ca. 1990 to 2010 CE. An abstract, solid-cast bronze sculpture entitled, "Rota" by contemporary artist Mary Bates Neubauer who revels in the intersections between art and science as well as the environment. This piece is one of her early works, of a smaller scale than her sculptural installations. In addition to its mesmerizing form - undulating with pointed termini - the piece also presents a lovely surface with richly worked, almost painterly patina and rich coppery and chocolate hues. Size: 11.125" L x 6.625" H (28.3 cm x 16.8 cm)
Mary Bates Neubauer's works have been collected by numerous public and private collectors. In addition, she has created many public artworks in the western United States. Furthermore, her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally in New York, Paris, Beijing, and Adelaide. She has been honored as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, a Fulbright Fellow in Cambridge England, and a Ford Fellow at Indiana University, Bloomington. In addition, she is Head of Sculpture at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, where given her interest in the interesections between art and science, she is involved in the Partnership for Spatial Modeling and serves as an affiliate to Arts, Media, and Engineering.
