Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built and highly-burnished redware pottery figure shown seated upon curved legs and a flat base. The shamanic figure wears a simple skirt with a strap over the right shoulder, holds tapering arms to bent knees, and has sloping shoulders tracing inward to a thick neck. The bulbous head is tilted slight to the left and exhibits a meditative countenance comprised of coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a slender nose, a thinly-incised mouth, and cupped ears with large ear spools, all beneath a simple cap bearing a central upturned horn. Size: 7.7" W x 12.125" H (19.6 cm x 30.8 cm).

Condition
Repairs to horn, nose, one leg, and one arm, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines; some break lines have light overpainting. Minor abrasions and nicks to ears, eyes, legs, and body, with light fading and fire-darkening to areas of original pigmentation, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Light earthen deposits and nice manganese blooms throughout. Old inventory number written in black ink as well as old inventory label beneath base.
