Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming, hand-built pottery sculpture of a female shown standing atop thick, straight legs with hoof-like feet as she holds both attenuated arms atop her drooping belly. Adorned with armbands, a collar necklace, annular earspools, and an elaborate headdress, the ancient female gazes forward presenting coffee bean-shaped eyes, a huge nose, and slightly parted, full lips. Liberal remains of orange pigment further embellish this ancient Colima sculpture. Size: 3.7" W x 6.3" H (9.4 cm x 16 cm)
