Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A fine pottery vessel presenting thick walls that curve gently inwards then flare out to a circular rim, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Adorned in hues of maroon, cream, and black, the exterior of this elegant vessel has been skillfully painted with an abstract design of geometric and steppe motifs. A pair of equidistantly spaced drill holes perforate the areas just below the rim, perhaps to accommodate for a lid or allow the vessel to be suspended. Size: 5.8" Diameter x 6.3" H (14.7 cm x 16 cm)
