Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A handsome pair of blackware vessels from Chupicuaro culture: a tripod rattle vessel and a jar. First, the tripod rattle vessel presents a rounded bottom and concave walls that extend upward to a tall body and a flared rim, all sitting upon a trio of nubbin legs. Each hollow leg contains a tiny piece of clay or a pebble that produces a lovely rattling sound when shaken. Alternatively, the other vessel is a jar that exhibits a round yet stable base and smooth walls that slant gently inward to a brief shoulder and an annular rim. A pair of petite loop-form handles sit on the flat shoulder, flanking the broad rim. Size (tripod): 4.6" Diameter x 6" H (11.7 cm x 15.2 cm)

Condition
Both repaired from several pieces with restoration over most break lines. Break lines visible on 1 foot and rim of tripod vessel. Both have modern burnishing, as well as expected nicks, chips, and abrasions. Otherwise, both are very nice with great pigments.
