Ancient central Asia, northwestern Iran to eastern Turkey, Luristan culture, ca, 1200 to 800 BCE. An exceptional bronze sword, remarkably intact and in superb condition, cast using the lost-wax (cire perdue) technique. The handle is seamlessly integrated with the blade, ensuring both balance and durability. The large, double-edged blade tapers to a slightly rounded tip and features a prominent midrib, enhancing its strength and visual appeal. The guard is adorned with concentric circles stamped into the surface between a raised ridge, forming a design that somewhat resembles an abstract face with eyes and a nose. The tubular handle terminates in a broad disc and pommel, possibly designed to improve grip, provide additional protection in combat, or serve as a decorative element. Swords like this may have also held ceremonial significance, as many were placed in elite burials or ritual hoards, symbolizing power and status. Size: 31.25" L x 3.25" W (79.4 cm x 8.3 cm); blade only: 24" L x 2" W (61 cm x 5.1 cm)
