Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica/Panama, Chiriqui culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A stunning gold frog pendant, stylized with large paddle-like rear limbs and granular eyes with indentations for pupils, cast using the sophisticated lost-wax casting technique. The gold purity is 92.13% (equivalent to 22K+)! Emerging from the mouth are a pair of symmetrical sinuous serpent or saurian heads, possibly symbolizing speech or linking to mythological or shamanic beliefs. Renowned for their advanced metalworking, the Chiriqui culture's craftsmanship is exemplified by the frog's detailed design. Frogs were symbols of rain and fertility and could also represent transformation, reflecting their lifecycle from water-bound tadpole to terrestrial frog . Size: 2.75" L (7 cm); Gold quality: 92.13% (equivalent to 22K+); weight: 42.3 grams
