Ancient East Asia, China, Hongshan culture, Neolithic Period, ca. 3500 to 2900 BCE. An intriguing anthropomorphic figural pendant of a slender form that is hand-carved from grassy green nephrite with light gray, light green, and citrine inclusions. The figure presents nude with fused legs and a protruding belly beneath both arms as they curl up along the chest, and smooth shoulders taper inwards to form the neckline. The ovoid head exhibits almond-shaped eyes flanking a triangular nose, full lips, and sweeping brows beneath an incised coiffure. A biconically drilled suspension hole behind the neck enables this pendant to be worn on a necklace strand. Size: 0.98" W x 3.94" H (2.5 cm x 10 cm)
