East Asia, Northeast China, Hongshan culture, Neolithic Period, ca. 3800 to 2700 BCE. An intriguing example of an abstract zoomorphic creature that is hand-carved from mottled green nephrite with natural citrine, marigold, ash gray, and chocolate brown inclusions. The creature stands atop a set of flared feet and presents a bulbous, segmented body, a pair of petite wings protruding from the verso, and an attentive head with bulging eyes and thick antennae. This creature is perhaps representative of a butterfly or a cicada variant, however its rather unique features only add to its captivating presentation. Size: 1.27" L x 0.93" W x 2.45" H (3.2 cm x 2.4 cm x 6.2 cm)
