Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1400 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with 2 distinct chambers. One chamber bears an egg-shaped profile that is surmounted by a tapered conical spout, and the front chamber depicts a seated man who holds a large bird by the neck and legs. Behind the man's head is a bridge spout with a petite whistle tone hole on top that creates a high-pitched sound when air is blown in through the top of the spout. Condition
Restoration to bird's head with small fissure beneath neckline, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and fading to pigment, with light softening to some finer details on figure and bird. Nice surface smoothness throughout. Whistle still creates a pleasing, high-pitched sound when air is blown into the spout. Old inventory label beneath base.
