Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished blackware pottery vessel of an ovoid form presenting a trio of stylized human figures seated along the upper body. The carinated vessel rests upon a gently rounded but stable base and has a strap handle arching from the shoulder up to the base of the spout. The central figure features elongated exterior canthi on his eyes, a tapered triangular face, and an intricate headdress while the female figures on either side hold one of his lengthy arms in both hands. Condition
Abrasions and light encrustations across most surfaces, with minor fading to dark pigment, and softening to some finer figural details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to figural details. Old display adhesive residue along verso and beneath base.
