Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A mold-formed blackware pottery vessel bearing attractive avian motifs along the upper body. The slightly carinated spherical body presents with a slightly convex but stable base, a pair of thick strap handles, a rounded upper body, and a funnel-form spout with a flared rim. The upper body bears 2 pairs of mold-formed avian panels: one with a bird with its neck facing towards the sky, and the other with a bird holding a petite fish in its mouth. Condition
Spout reattached to top of vessel's body and small area of rim reattached, both with small chips as well as adhesive and earthen residue along break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to base, body, handles, and spout, with softening to some mold-formed avian details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
