Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A nicely preserved sewing basket of woven reeds with an assortment of original textile weaving tools. Among the tools are 9 wooden needles with attached pottery spindle whorls; 1 wooden needle with a wooden spindle whorl; 12 slender wooden needles; 3 wooden needles with spools of thread; 1 small copper wire fragment; 2 greenstone discoid spools; 1 wooden tube with painted linear motifs; 2 spools of thread; 3 ungulate-bone awls; and 1 comb made from wood and thread. Size (basket): 5.5" L x 13.375" W x 2.75" H (14 cm x 34 cm x 7 cm); Size of largest item (needle w/ spindle whorl): 13.4" L (34 cm).

Condition
Basket has small losses to lid and base, with fraying to some fibers. Minor chips and losses to some wooden needles, slight bending to overall forms of copper and wood components, and fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
