Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hollow-made bichrome female cuchimilco "star-gazer" figure standing on thick legs and flat feet. The figure bears delineated genitalia below a broad abdomen, with large intersecting straps painted in black in-between her outstretched arms. Her head boasts an expressive visage with circular eyes and painted pupils, a petite nose, an open mouth, and an enormous forehead with a painted headband of linear and zigzag forms. Additional black-painted details adorn her eyes, nose, hands, ankles, and around her mouth, perhaps suggestive of ritual scarification marks. Custom metal display stand included. Size: 8.625" W x 10" H (21.9 cm x 25.4 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand.
