- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. Sizable and impressive, a hollow-built female stargazer figure known as a cuchimilco standing upon broad feet and delineated legs. The figure presents nude save for a pair of black-painted, X-shaped straps coursing across her chest and holds both hands out at her sides. Her thick neck tapers upwards to form the enormous head with perforated ears, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, pursed lips, and a massive brow, all accentuated with black linear motifs, cresting waves, and an abstract triangular headband. Size: 9.375" W x 14.2" H (23.8 cm x 36.1 cm); 14.625" H (37.1 cm) on included custom stand.
