Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. Sizable and impressive, a hollow-built female stargazer figure known as a cuchimilco standing upon broad feet and delineated legs. The figure presents nude save for a pair of black-painted, X-shaped straps coursing across her chest and holds both hands out at her sides. Her thick neck tapers upwards to form the enormous head with perforated ears, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, pursed lips, and a massive brow, all accentuated with black linear motifs, cresting waves, and an abstract triangular headband. Minor abrasions to limbs, body, and head, with a few stable hairline fissures to slip pigment along front of neckline, small chips to one toe, and light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of pigment throughout.
