Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Valle Del Cauca, Calima, Yotoco phase, ca. 300 to 1300 CE. A fabulous mold-formed pottery alcarraza of an intriguing form replete with mammiform and phalliform details. The bulbous body rests upon a multi-lobed base with 10 engorged mammaries constituting the overall structure. The pinched shoulder and domed top resemble a phallic head, and a pair of tapering conical spouts project from either terminal of an arching handle. Faint traces of intricate black-on-red resist designs adorn the highly-burnished exterior. An interesting vessel with composite symbolism of fertility, virility, and abundance. Size: 6.75" W x 6.625" H (17.1 cm x 16.8 cm).
