Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Valle Del Cauca, Calima culture, Ilama Phase, ca. 400 BCE to 100 CE. A lovely redware vessel in the form of a squatting male figure, perhaps a dwarf. Sitting upon a flat base, the ancient vessel features a rotund body and a cylindrical neck that flares outwards to a wide, circular rim. The portly figure presents a huge head bearing a naturalistic countenance with heavy-lidded, almond-shaped eyes, a naturalistic nose, full cheeks, prominent nasolabial folds, a slender mouth, and a projecting chin, all flanked by a pair of high-set, zoomorphic ears. Shoulders jut out to either size of his face, as he bends his arms at the elbows with hands on his face, just above 2 bulbous nipples. A pair of shins and feet can be seen at the bottom of the figure, with a petite phallus displayed between them. Size: 5.8" in diameter x 5" H (14.7 cm x 12.7 cm)
