Near East, Byzantine, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A beautiful silver repousse applique of circular form featuring the visage of Christ surrounded by a halo. Capped by a centrally parted coiffure, his holy visage features almond-shaped eyes beneath an arched brow, a straight nose, and a petite mouth engulfed in a neatly manicured beard, all flanked by a pair of ears. Incised striations representing strands of hair travel vertically down his coiffure and facial hair, while 3 triangular motifs on his halo point inwards towards his face, emphasizing the stoic visage as the centerpiece. The periphery of the piece is adorned with 3 nubs bearing petite nails, allowing for attachment. Size: 2.1" in diameter (5.3 cm); Metal quality: 93% silver, 1% gold; Weight: 7 grams

Minor losses along left periphery. Possible loss of nub with nail in upper left. Expected nicks and light bending, but form is still clear. Otherwise, excellent with nice remaining detail.
