**First Time At Auction**
Greece, Boeotia, Middle Geometric period, ca. early 8th century BCE. An attractive terracotta chous or oinochoe meticulously hand-painted with several horizontal registers of linear, lattice, and polka dot motifs in black and red pigments. Sitting upon a flat base, the vessel boasts an elegant silhouette with a bulbous body, a cylindrical neck, and a rolled rim. A graceful arched handle rises from the annular rim, connecting it to the rounded edge of the shoulder. A vessel like this would have been used for pouring oils or another liquid, perhaps during a sacred ceremony as suggested by its elaborate decoration. An ornate example from ancient Greece! Size: 3.4" Diameter x 3.7" H (8.6 cm x 9.4 cm)
