Blinky Palermo (also known as Palermo, born Peter Schwarze, German, 1943-1977), untitled offset print in colors, 1970. Signed and dated in pencil on the lower right. Numbered 67/250 on lower left. A minimalist composition presenting a miniature hexagon in green-blue and golden ochre hues at the center of a sheet. Peter Schwarze was born in Leipzig, Germany and studied at Dusseldorf Academy with Bruno Goller and Joseph Beuys in 1962. He changed his name to Palmero after the American boxing promoter and mafioso Frank "Blinky" Palermo in 1964. Palermo was best known for monochromatic canvases and fabric paintings comprised of cut material that was stretched and stitched over a frame. Beuys' influence is evident in his interest in spatial relations, color, and form. His work has been collected by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Dia Art Foundation among others. Size: 17.625" L x 12.5" W (44.8 cm x 31.8 cm)
