Ancient Central Europe, Germany and Austria, Danube River Basin, Hallstatt culture, ca. 8th to 6th century BCE. A fine pair of silver earrings, each presenting a discoid form with a convex obverse, somewhat resembling a shield. Each convex face is beautifully adorned with applied sterling silver wires that form 7 spiral motifs. The elevated design is then surrounded by a flat border which is flanked by slender twisted wires on both the exterior and interior. Another twisted wire rises from the top of each to form a suspension loop and then bends downward to end at the bottom of the earring, forming a type of elongated French hook. Size (both the same, without hook): 1.6" L x 0.8" W (4.1 cm x 2 cm); Size (with hook): 2.3" L (5.8 cm); silver quality: 96% to 98%; weight (total): 6.5 grams

Condition
Ancient earrings fit with modern hooks to be wearable. Expected abrasions and softening of detail, commensurate with age. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with nice patina.
