Central Asia, modern day Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, Bactria (Bactria Margiana Archaeological Complex/BMAC), ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. Quite a showstopper, this matching pair of bracelets boasts a striking design, the two bangles are comprised of heavily gilded (72% gold, equivalent to 15K+) copper alloy with alternating ovoid and rectangular turquoise inlays (23 inlays in total - 12 on one and 11 on the other as 1 is missing) set in the centers of square relief panels that are elegantly outlined by vertical linear recessions. Truly works of art! Size: Each one measures ~ 3.25" in diameter (8.3 cm) from exterior to exterior end; diameter of opening is 2.75" (6.99 cm); Total weight: 237.1 grams; Gold quality: 72% or equivalent to 15K+
Gold artifacts were discovered in excavations of the Tillya Tepe burial, found in northern Afghanistan. That burial mound, containing six graves (five female and one male), had over 20,000 golden artifacts and is known as "The Hill of Gold". Chemical analysis on that gold suggests that it was probably local, perhaps panned from Bactrian rivers. Four of the women were found wearing gold necklaces, bracelets, anklets, headdresses/crowns, and garments with multiple golden appliques sewn on them. Many of these objects show signs of wear, suggesting that they were not just made to be worn by the deceased, but were intended to be heirlooms for the living.

Condition
All but one turquoise inlay are present, some possibly replaced. Normal surface wear with some loss to gilding as shown. Warm patina to the copper alloy beneath the very thick gilt. Overall, the bracelets are quite impressive as well as very rare.
