Canada, Quebec, early 20th century. A beautiful Art Deco reverse painted glass chess or checker board with a stunning wooden frame decorated with exquisite marquetry work. The checkerboard pattern is comprised of alternating reverse-painted black and marbleized squares of rose, sky blue, and white hues - all outlined in a sky blue grid and surrounded by a border that features paintings of two bird dogs (pointers) delineated in profile and two white birds (outlined in black) with outspread wings, all against yellow rectangular panels that are also bordered in sky blue - with corners embellished in a claret red hue. The marquetry frame was skillfully executed with diagonal striated bands that culminate in miniature checkerboards at the centers of each side - and additional striated bands on the profile edges of the gameboard. Size: 19" L x 20.875" W (48.3 cm x 53 cm)
