Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 320 to 310 BCE. A stunning pottery amphora of impressive size bearing a flared foot beneath a lengthy stem, a piriform body below a corseted neck, a pair of elegantly arching handles, and a deep, flared rim above a ring of palmettes. The body of the amphora is richly decorated with scrolls, additional palmettes, flowers, and serpentine vines, all via the red-figure technique, with a woman's head emerging from a patera. The reverse features a singular female head in profile adorned with a sakos, perhaps a Lady of Fashion. Size: 24.75" H (62.9 cm)
