East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful textured vase with a globular body and elongated neck with stunning blue glaze. Around the neck, resting on the shoulder is a relief lizard with a double tail and a stylized bat. The vase rests on a ring foot with a slightly concave base. The surface is covered in rows of slightly raised nodules that create an interesting tactile and bumpy exterior in conjunction with the smooth, lustrous glaze. The glaze is a deep cobalt blue with some lighter or darker hues from the firing process. Gecko lizards are symbols of wealth, and in some cultures the double tails is a sign of good luck. Bats are also auspicious creatures of good luck and fertility. The glaze is simply stunning and even better in person! Size: 5.25" Diameter x 10.75" H (13.3 cm x 27.3 cm)
