Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. This is a lovely and wearable pair of matching 90.6% to 92.9% gold (equivalent to 22K+) earrings, each with a petite boss. The boss is made from a convex sheet and welded to the thick wire hoop, just below the clasp. The rest of the wire forms a hoop, and the terminal tips create the original loop clasp, now permanently wrapped together. Along the length of the earrings are incised linear markings encircling the wire that add nice texture to the otherwise smooth surfaces. These earrings have been made wearable with modern 14K gold-plated sterling silver ear hooks added to the hoops! Size: 1" L x 0.47" Diameter (2.5 cm x 1.2 cm); gold quality: 90.6% to 92.9% gold (equivalent to 22K+); total weight: 2.9 grams
