Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization era, ca. 2600 BCE. This is a fine anthropomorphic head, hand molded with a dark gray nearly black hue. The head is feminine with a long and pinched nasal ridge impressed slit shaped eyes, applied headdress and necklace, and intricate stippled coiffure. The hair is pulled back and gathered at the back of her head in an elaborate updo, with what may be curls piled behind the headband. This woman is likely an idol figure that represents the Mother goddess, an ancient fertility deity. Size: 1.25" L x 1" W (3.2 cm x 2.5 cm); 2.25" H (5.7 cm) on included custom stand.
