- Lot Description
Ancient Near East, Anatolia, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. An impressive, leaded bronze bull, a symbol of both fertility and virility in the ancient world. The slender, elongated body of the figurine stands atop four legs with stylized hooves, and a long tail draping behind. A broad snout, incised mouth, double-perforated eyes, and perforated nose create the stylized visage of this animal with a prominent pair of curved horns projecting from the top of his head. The body has developed a lovely green patina that is covered with earthen deposits. A wonderful example! Size: 3.1" L x 1" W x 2.2" H (7.9 cm x 2.5 cm x 5.6 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
