Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A beautiful and wearable pendant made from 97.5% gold (equivalent to 22K+) containing a petite leaded-brass pendant with an image of a stylized bird head. The bird, perhaps a depiction of "Shahbaz," the royal falcon that appeared on the royal flag of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, is of a minimalist design with a left-facing head bearing a petite beak and backswept feathers atop the head. The circular pendant setting has a cord-patterned periphery that traces upwards to form an hourglass-shaped suspension loop. Strung on a modern necklace strand, this is a gorgeous accessory ready to complement any outfit! Size (pendant): 0.45" W x 0.625" H (1.1 cm x 1.6 cm); (necklace): 22" L (55.9 cm); quality of gold: 97.5% (equivalent to 22K+); total weight (including brass): 2 grams

Condition
Wearable as shown. Gold setting and leaded brass pendant are ancient, and necklace strand is modern. Light abrasions and indentations to gold setting, with softening to avian motif on pendant obverse, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.
