East Asia, Korea, Silla Kingdom, ca. 5th to 6th century CE. A stunning pair of hand-carved stoneware vessels from the Silla Dynasty; a jar and a footed cup with a pottery lid. The jar presents with a round but stable base, a bulbous body that expands wider than it is tall, a sloped shoulder that tapers to a short neck, and a gently flared, annular rim. Boasting smoothly formed walls, the ancient vessel is embellished with a decorative raised ring that encircles the mouth of the jar and a pretty textured pattern that covers its base. The second vessel is known as a kobae. Sitting upon a distinctive flaring openwork foot, the lovely cup displays a shallow basin, a wide, circular rim, and a hemispherical pottery lid with a flat top and a trapezoidal knob at its center. Size of jar: 7" in diameter x 5.125" H (17.8 cm x 13 cm); Size of footed vessel: 5.25" in diameter x 5.25" H (13.3 cm x 13.3 cm); Size of lid: 5.5" in diameter x 1.625" H (14 cm x 4.1 cm)
Both pieces are accompanied by decorative boxes; the first vessel has a box wrapped in brown silk, and the other's box exhibits a yellow and red fabric exterior with geometric motifs and a yellow silk interior.

Condition
Lid is not original to footed vessel, but both are from same period. Small area on rim of lid has been restored. All have expected surface wear with nicks/chips and abrasions commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with lovely earthen deposits throughout.
