Native American, United States, Southwestern Virginia, Washington, Smythe, and Scott Counties, Middle Archaic to Mississippian periods, ca. 3000 BCE to 1500 CE (5000 to 500 BP). A wonderful ensemble of 58 hand-knapped projectile points in varying hues of taupe, cream, grey, black, and white. All boasting triangular, triangular stemmed, and triangular notched forms. These lovely arrowheads have all been identified as different types of points from southwestern Virginia, such as Garden Creek, Pisgah, Brewerton, Plott, Clagett, Pigeon, Zekiah Swamp, Meadowood, Gypsy, Garvers Ferry, and Swannanoa. Knapped lithics, like these examples, are made using percussion, striking them with other stones; the process required to get them the correct shape requires training and skill.
