Native American, Virginia, Scott and Smyth County, Middle Woodland to Historic Period, ca. 300 BCE to 1600 CE (2,300 to 400 BP). A remarkable array of 53 arrowheads; 51 hand-knapped from stone and 2 carved bird bones. These wonderful weapons are representative of 6 different projectile point types: Clarksville, Roanoke, Caraway, Garden Creek, Yadkin, and Badin. Of these arrowhead types, the Garden Creek point displays an isosceles triangular form and the Yadkin exhibits a flattened cross section, while the remaining 4 types present triangular forms with elliptical cross sections. This lovely collection features many rich shades of grey, as well as hues of caramel, rosy brown, taupe, misty rose, cream, and black. Losses to tips of 5 points and bases of 5 points. Collection number written on 3 points. White spot on 1 point. Nicks or chips to peripheries, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, excellent. Set in a wood and Lucite frame. Frame missing attachment in lower right corner. Tape on right and left sides of frame to prevent points from falling out.
