- Lot Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A stunning collection of 4 necklaces made of silver, nickel-brass, and beading of glass, bone, turquoise, and other stones. The first necklace is a striking nickel-brass circular pendant with repousse flowers on the verso. The front boasts a colorful array of quartz stones set in circular bezels. Granulated balls surround the central stone, and small baubles dangle from the bottom. This pendant is strung on a modern chain with a lobster clasp. Next is a colorful necklace with a 19% silver chain forming half of the strand- the rest is comprised of a thread strung with approximately 50 disc, spherical, and barrel-shaped beads made of turquoise, pink, glass, and white glass. Five circular copper and 8% to 10% silver bezels surround generous turquoise stones. The largest bezel forms the central pendant with carnelian stone and white glass beads dangling from the bottom. The third necklace has a large copper and 8% silver floral pendant on a thread strand strung with disc shaped bone beads, pink glass, and most symbolically; dzi patterned glass prayer beads. The last necklace, and my favorite, is a stylized brass and 7% silver lion pendant with spherical 26% silver beading forming the chain with a hook clasp at the top. These are an eclectic group of wearable necklaces with symbolic designs and materials. Size of quartz pendant: 2.25" L x 2" W (5.7 cm x 5.1 cm); chain: 26" L (66 cm); lion pendant: 2" L x 2.5" W (5.1 cm x 6.4 cm); chain: 26" L (66 cm); flower pendant: 2.75" L x 3" W (7 cm x 7.6 cm); chain: 28" L (71.1 cm); blue pendant: 1.75" L (4.4 cm); chain: 28" L (71.1 cm); quality of silver: 7% to 26%
