Ancient Seas, North America, United States, Ohio & New York, mid to late Devonian Period, ca. 390 to 360 million years ago. This is a wonderful collection of 4 different slate and shale matrices that contain 5 trilobite fossils from the Northeastern and Midwestern United states. The matrix with 2 fossils has a pair of Phacops rana trilobites, and several shell fragments. The other two large matrices also contain Phacops rana, all beautifully excavated from the surrounding stone, and with great preservation to the thorax, spines, and eye lobes. The last and different species is a nearly fully excavated Eldredgeops milleri trilobite that is slightly enrolled around the slate that once encased the creature. Size (double fossils): 1.25" L x 0.8" W (3.2 cm x 2 cm); (matrix): 4.7" L x 3" W (11.9 cm x 7.6 cm)

Condition
Professionally excavated and prepared. The Eldredgeops is almost completely 3D, with some adhesive infill to a hairline fissure on the cephalon head and matrix. Paper labels on the bases of 3 trilobites. Largest Phacops fossil has a repair to the matrix with adhesive and infill to posterior pygidium. The double trilobite and last Phacops matrix excellent and intact, nice additional shell fragments and imprints in matrices of both.
