- Lot Description
Latin America, Mexico, Oligocene to Miocene, ca. 23.03 to 15.97 million years ago; Central Europe, Czech Republic, ca. 15 million years old; North America, Yukon / Alaska, ca. millions of years old. This is a great mineral collection including gold, moldavite, and amber. The gold fleck in a clear case comes from eastern Alaska or Canadian Yukon gold deposits, probably near the Klondike River, and the other gold fleck is part of a white quartzite matrix, cut and polished into a rectangular shape. The moldavite is from a meteorite impact and has a glassy and translucent green coloring. The amber is from the Chiapas region and is cut, polished, attached to a sterling silver bail, and strung on a cord as a wearable necklace. Within the amber are two minuscule insects, perhaps gnats or ants. Size of amber: 1.75" L x 1" W (4.4 cm x 2.5 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); pure gold fleck: 0.12" L x 0.125" W (0.3 cm x 0.3 cm)
Gold was discovered by prospectors in the Klondike River region in the late 19th century, resulting in the Klondike Gold Rush from 1897 to 1898. Approximately 100,000 hopeful miners took flight to the Alaskan and Yukon wilderness, less than half made it to the area, a few thousand found gold, and only a few hundred actually profited from their discoveries. Imaginably, the few that found gold probably only found flecks of this size!

The moldavite is natural and unpolished. The gold in the quartz matrix is cut and polished, and the gold fleck is displayed in a acrylic case.Condition
